Walmer Inshore Lifeboat Tows Disabled Yacht to Ramsgate
 
Walmer's RNLI Lifeboat was called out shortly after 12.30 pm on Saturday 23 April to reports of a disabled yacht close to the Goodwin Sands
A call was made to Dover Coastguard from the 10 metre yacht, with 2 people on board, saying that they had a damaged propulsion system and required assistance 400 metres from the East Goodwin buoy

Walmer RNLI Lifeboat was immediately tasked by HM Coastguard to assist. In relatively calm waters the yacht was quickly located and taken in tow back to her port of Ramsgate. Attempts had been made by a fellow yacht to assist but this had not proved successful.
Denis Brophy, Walmer Lifeboat Operations Manager said that “Although the waters were calm the history of the Goodwin Sands speaks for itself and any vessel in difficulties in that area is considered at risk and requiring assistance”

 

Walmer's RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was called out shortly after 2.30 pm on Saturday 23 April to reports of a person in the water hanging onto a Kayak and shouting for help.

A 999 call was made to Dover Coastguard from a member of the public saying a man could be seen and heardshouting for help, in the sea hanging onto his Kayak off sandown Castle

Walmer RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was immediately tasked by HM Coastguard to assist. Just prior to arrival on scene a yacht had become aware of his distress and managed to recover him from the water . The casualty was transferred to to lifeboat, his Kayak recovered and he was returned to the shore where he had set off
Denis Brophy, Walmer Lifeboat Operations Manager said that “It was a very warm day with temperatures well above seasonal average but I would like to remind people that this early in the summer the sea temperature is still relatively cold and the wearing of appropriate clothing and a lifejacket is strongly recommended when taking part in water borne activities”
