Welly Walk January 2010

Radio Course picture

On Sunday 31st Walmer lifeboat station hosted an RNLI Welly Walk in aid of SOS day. This involved the public raising money to walk to the Rowing Club and back in wellies. The Welly Walk is a central RNLI fundraising initiative and there were several trial walks around the country on the last weekend of January.

Both boats were on display at the front of the station and the crew was on hand to answer questions from the public. The walk started at 1030 and lasted about an hour. Tea, coffee and cakes were available for the public people on their return and the RNLI shop was open too. Walmer lifeboat station personnel and the fund raising public were joined by crew from Dover lifeboat station on the walk.

Denis Brophy, lifeboat operations manager, and Jenny Green a senior RNLI fund raiser were very pleased with the support the public gave to the event with the target of £1000 very likely to be achieved. There is already discussion about holding the event again next year.
