Walmer Lifeboat Open Day was held in conjunction with the Walmer Parish Churches fete on Saturday on Walmer Green. Several hundred visitors came to the stands on the Green and visited the Lifeboat Station where the crew were available, lifeboat models were on display and souvenirs were purchased. The boats were out in front of the boat house and Cloke Scaffolding kindly provided a scaffold ramp to enable visitors to look into the Atlantic 85 lifeboat on its launching cradle.

Strong northerly winds and some heavy showers deterred visitors later in the morning, but approximately 80 people turned up for the Lifeboat display off the Beach at 2.00pm. Both Walmer Lifeboats launched and Dover lifeboat came to take part in the display. The activities included a simulated fire on a local fishing boat, the rescue of an injured sailor from a sailing dinghy and the rescue of a kayaker. The simulated injuries were attended to by the Deal Community Responders team.

The large sea swell landing on the beach when the lifeboats came ashore provided a little drama as a large wave caught the Atlantic 85 lifeboat as it landed in its cradle to come up the beach and nearly swamped the lifeboat. The helmsman aborted the landing and backed out to sea for a second (and successful) attempt at coming ashore.

James Evans was helmsman on the day and said "We thank the people of Walmer and Deal for their support and hope this display at the Lifeboat Open Day provides a demonstration of some of the tasks we are trained for".
