Andy Parsons and Andy Curling raised £1025 for the Walmer Lifeboat by completing the Kent Coastal Marathon in 4 hours 25 minutes. Many of the sponsorship donations came from customers of the Lord Nelson, the Trafalgar Restaurant and the Stag, all on the Strand opposite the Lifeboat Station. Both runners were born and bred in Deal. Andy Parsons, who works at the Lord Nelson and Andy Curling, who is a civil servant, said “We thank our sponsors and we are looking forward to running our second marathon, possibly in Berlin. We appreciate the time and dedication put in by the RNLI volunteers.” Denis Brophy, Operations Manager at Walmer Lifeboat Station, together with members of the crew received the cheque for the donation at the Lord Nelson. Denis Brophy said “The local support and interest for the Lifeboat is wonderful. It helps our volunteer crew and shore helpers go through their training and carry out their tasks at sea”
